JAMB sacks staff member over extortion of candidates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the termination of one of its staff members for allegedly extorting candidates seeking admission.
In a bulletin released on Monday, the Board emphasized that this action reflects its ongoing commitment to eradicating fraudulent practices within the admissions and examination processes.
JAMB stated that the dismissal of the unnamed employee underscores its dedication to tackling exploitation, not only by external fraudsters but also by those within the organization who misuse their positions.
“The termination of the staff member is a further demonstration of JAMB’s renewed commitment to removing individuals who compromise the integrity of the system,” the Board stated.
The Board also issued a warning to its employees against any activities that could undermine JAMB’s credibility or exploit candidates and members of the public. It reiterated that any staff found guilty of misconduct would face serious consequences according to existing regulations.
“The Board noted that this action communicates a clear and unequivocal message: its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies to everyone, regardless of their status or position,” the statement read.
JAMB reaffirmed its stance that it will not protect any employee who violates the trust placed in them by candidates or the public.
