Kaduna: Kidnapped woman, three daughters escape after 180 days in captivity
A woman and her three daughters from Ariko village in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have escaped from their kidnappers after spending 180 days in captivity.
Reuben Buhari, a security analyst and former adviser to the Kaduna state governor, announced the escape in a statement on Monday. According to Buhari, the family managed to flee from their captors on Saturday and undertook a difficult journey through the bush, despite their physical exhaustion.
The woman, who was pregnant at the time of her abduction, gave birth during her captivity, but the newborn is reported to have died three weeks later. Buhari noted that the family’s youngest daughter, four-year-old Christy, was ill during the escape.
Her mother carried her initially, but when fatigue set in, Christy’s 12-year-old sister took over. The family trekked until nightfall on Saturday and spent the night in the bush before continuing their journey the next morning.
Tragically, Christy died during the trek. The mother and her remaining daughters eventually reached a nearby community in Kachia Local Government Area on Sunday, where local residents provided assistance and arranged for medical attention before planning their transfer to Kaduna for further care.
