Kano police, hunters recover AK-47 from suspected kidnappers, arrest bandit

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters, recovered an AK-47 rifle and 18 rounds of live ammunition during a search operation in Falgore Forest on Sunday. The operation took place around 6:30 a.m. in the Doguwa Local Government Area.

Authorities arrested a suspect identified as Ibrahim Rabiu, from Yardoka Village in the Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Rabiu is linked to the kidnapping of Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu from Falgore Village. The police confirmed the developments in a statement issued Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The operation involved police personnel from the Doguwa Division and local hunters, known as ‘Yan Bula’, who combed the forest and its surroundings in search of fleeing suspects and weapons.

In a previous operation, police neutralized two suspected bandits, recovered a ransom of ₦10 million, and rescued a kidnapped victim. During investigations, the rescued individual identified Rabiu as among those who guarded him at night and mistreated him during captivity.

Rabiu has since been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad within the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend an alleged accomplice who remains at large and to recover additional items associated with the crime.

Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori praised the ‘Yan Bula’ hunters for their support in police operations within the Falgore Forest and surrounding communities. The collaboration is part of Operation Kukan Kura, an initiative aimed at bolstering security in the region.
