Kaduna State Government Inaugurates Governing Boards for Key Agencies

Kaduna State officials emphasized the importance of clear roles for Governing Boards at the recent inauguration of four agencies. Dr. AbdulKadir Muázu Meyere, Secretary to the State Government, underscored that these boards should focus on providing policy direction and oversight, without interfering in the daily administration of their respective institutions.

During the inauguration, Dr. Meyere addressed the boards of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Kaduna State Media Corporation, Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, and the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority. He highlighted that understanding the distinction between oversight and operational management is crucial for a successful tenure.

Dr. Meyere urged board members to adhere to due process, the Public Procurement Act, and all existing financial regulations while managing public resources. “Avoid any conflict between your personal interests and the interests of the institutions you serve,” he advised. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining confidentiality and encouraged the boards to work collaboratively with the agencies’ chief executives and staff.

He encouraged board members to set clear and measurable goals for performance assessment and to direct their reports and recommendations through appropriate government channels for timely consideration. Dr. Meyere pledged ongoing support from his office to assist the boards in fulfilling their responsibilities.

The secretary articulated that the mandate of these governing boards aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s transformative agenda. He acknowledged the significance of the Livestock Regulatory Authority, which plays a vital role in developing a sector that sustains many livelihoods and holds substantial investment potential.

Dr. Meyere also recognized the critical functions of the Kaduna Media Corporation in informing and educating the public, as well as the roles of the Schools Quality Assurance Authority and the Scholarship and Loans Board in advancing human capital development.

The Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority will be led by Mr. Tanko Kokwain Baji, with the Director General serving as secretary. Alhaji El Sa’ad Yakubu Lere heads the Governing Board of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, which includes various members from different sectors, such as the Managing Director of the corporation and representatives from the Information Ministry.

The governing board of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board is chaired by Lawal Usman, with the Vice Chairman being the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. Members include directors from the Ministries of Finance and Justice, as well as representatives from the local government and a financial institution.

David Umar Gurara chairs the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority, with the Director General also serving as secretary of its 11-member board.
