The kidnapped Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the Abia State University, Prof Godwin Emezue, has regained his freedom after 11 days in captivity.

The Professor was abducted by unknown gunmen in a filling station in Umuahia, the state capital, two weeks ago.

The DVC was released on Tuesday night, February 6 after ransom payment and is currently receiving medical attention in an undisclosed hospital due to torture.

A source close said that the kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of N35 million and later reduced it to N20m.

The kidnappers had released a video of how they tortured the professor and threatened to kill him if the family failed to pay the ransom before the end of last Saturday.
