Kogi Police begins probe as male officer guns down female colleague, shoots self dead

The Kogi State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the deaths of two officers from the Ajaokuta Police Division, Amos Yusuf and Grace Onimisi.
Preliminary reports suggest that during a night shift, Yusuf allegedly shot Onimisi before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 20.
Police Public Relations Officer Saliu Oyiza Afusat confirmed in a statement released on Sunday that both officers were transported to different medical facilities, where they were pronounced dead. “Their remains have been deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital,” Afusat noted.
Authorities recovered one AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges from the scene. The case has since been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further examination.
While some reports indicate that the officers may have been in a romantic relationship and possibly experienced a disagreement prior to the incident, the Police Command has urged the public to refrain from making assumptions. “The circumstances and motive remain subjects of investigation, and the Command will not speculate on matters yet to be established,” the statement emphasized.
