Kogi vigilante service arrests man suspected of belonging to kidnapping syndicate

KOGI STATE, Nigeria — A 24-year-old man suspected of involvement in a kidnapping syndicate was arrested by the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) on Thursday evening. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Babuga, was taken into custody in Igabada, a community located near the border between Kogi and Enugu states, at approximately 7 p.m.
In a statement released on Saturday, KSVS spokesman Idris S. Idris reported that the arrest was made by operatives from the Igalamela Command, who acted on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s alleged activities.
Idris indicated that Babuga confessed to being part of a criminal gang engaged in kidnapping. He also noted that Babuga was previously released by the gang after a ransom was paid.
Comptroller-General of the KSVS, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Anataku, praised the operatives for their dedication and effectiveness in conducting security operations. He encouraged them to maintain their efforts to combat criminal activities in the region.
Anataku expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo for ongoing support, which he stated has enhanced the morale of personnel and improved the operational efficiency of the service.
The comptroller-general called on local residents to assist security agencies by providing timely and reliable information to prevent crime and aid in the apprehension of suspects. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation for strengthening security and ensuring safety within the state.
The Kogi State Vigilante Service reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with other security agencies in addressing issues of kidnapping and other criminal activities throughout the state.
