Kwara Fire Service recovers body of 7-year-old boy from well

The Kwara Fire Service has recovered the body of a 7-year-old boy, Abdull-Haayi, who drowned in a domestic well in Ilorin. 

 

 

The tragic incident occurred about 05:28 pm on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Yaa-Lateef House, Tinu Street Akerebiata area of Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Spokesperson of the service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said the brigade was summoned by one a neighbour Mr. Idowu.

 

“However, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr. Yussuf, a family member of the deceased,” he said.

 

“According to the report, the victim went to fetch water at the well and during the process of fetching one of his legs suddenly slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled down into the well.” 

 

 

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident and urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and should desist from sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
