Kwara State Governor Receives 163 Rescued Victims of Terrorist Attacks
ILORIN, Nigeria — Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed 163 individuals rescued from terrorist attacks in the Woro community of Kaiama Local Government Area on Thursday, according to the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola.
Of the rescued victims, 46 are currently receiving medical attention at a health facility. The governor met the victims in Ilorin alongside several key officials, including Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade; Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi; State Director of the Department of State Services Michael Oganwu; Kaiama LGA Chairman Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi; and Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Muazu Umaru.
In his remarks, Governor AbdulRazaq described the situation as “sad and regrettable,” but emphasized that the successful rescue highlighted the effectiveness of government and security efforts. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing support in enhancing security in the state.
“This gathering is filled with mixed feelings,” the governor stated. “While we regret the entire incident, we are thankful that our collective efforts have resulted in the safe return of the victims.”
Governor AbdulRazaq outlined his commitment to providing necessary medical care for all rescued individuals and noted the government’s ongoing support for the Woro community to aid in its recovery. He credited President Tinubu for the government’s focused approach to security and expressed appreciation for the president’s prompt assistance in times of need.
“The seriousness of the president’s actions shows a commitment to protecting Kwara and Nigeria,” he said. “We appreciate his efforts to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.”
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of Kwara residents, referencing ongoing security enhancements, including the establishment of Operation Savannah Shield, the recruitment of 2,600 forest guards, and the formation of five additional battalions of the Nigerian Army.
Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, Chairman of Kaiama LGA, acknowledged that 13 victims remain unaccounted for, but expressed relief at the successful rescue of many. He thanked the governor for his relentless efforts and investments in security.
Emir Alhaji Muazu Umaru commended the governor for his steadfast support during the crisis and expressed hope that such incidents would not recur, emphasizing the potential impact of the new military formations in the area.
