Minister of Works: Every State in Nigeria a Construction Site Under Tinubu
LAGOS—Minister of Works Dave Umahi stated that President Bola Tinubu has transformed every state in Nigeria into a construction zone. He made these comments while addressing critics of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway during the launch of repair works on the Eko Marine Bridge and sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
“Let anyone tell me which state is not a construction site under President Tinubu. I am waiting for a debate on this issue,” Umahi said, questioning the ongoing criticism of the Coastal Highway project.
He emphasized that the Niger Delta should benefit from national infrastructure developments, dismissing claims that the highway would not pass through Epe. “In fact, Lot 1 of the project is completed, and Lot 2 is over 80 percent finished,” he noted.
Umahi also detailed the progress of the highway in various regions, stating that construction has exceeded 30 percent in Calabar and Akwa Ibom, with significant sections underway, including 180 kilometers in one phase and an additional 360 kilometers in Akwa Ibom.
In Ogun, work is ongoing on 28 kilometers; in Ondo, 52 kilometers have been addressed with over 20 percent completion. Only the states of Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, and Edo remain in the procurement phase for 100 kilometers of the project.
“I do not blame those who think this is impossible; this President has achieved what many deemed unachievable,” Umahi added, citing the audacity of Tinubu’s leadership.
He concluded with a personal reflection, recalling his early career as an engineer in Lagos, noting the remarkable transformation of the Eko Atlantic area, which he said was once impassable.
