Lagos: Dispatch rider killed in trailer crash along Ogunnusi Road

A dispatch rider was killed in a road accident involving a trailer on Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Lagos State, late Wednesday evening. The incident occurred near the Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) Church, resulting in fatal head injuries for the rider.

A reporter at the scene observed the victim’s body lying on the roadway, with visible injuries and blood around the head. Witnesses, including sympathizers and motorists, gathered after the crash.

Emergency responders evacuated the deceased from the scene for necessary procedures. An eyewitness attributed fault for the collision to the dispatch rider, although the precise details of the accident have not been independently verified.

The driver of the trailer reportedly fled the scene shortly after the crash, leaving the victim behind. A representative from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) participated in the evacuation and transported the rider’s body to a nearby police station located near Grammar School.

A towing vehicle later arrived to remove the trailer involved in the accident, enabling the clearance of the roadway for other motorists. The incident garnered significant attention from local residents and passersby, many of whom expressed concern over the tragic outcome.

While the circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, authorities are anticipated to launch an investigation to determine the factors contributing to the rider’s death. The tragedy underscores the risks faced by dispatch riders and other vulnerable road users in Lagos, especially when navigating alongside heavy-duty vehicles.

The identity of the deceased and an official statement from local authorities have not yet been released as of this report.
