Lagos Health Commissioner Debunks Claim Alimosho General Hospital Has One Dialysis Machine
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has refuted claims that Alimosho General Hospital in Igando has only one operational dialysis machine. In a statement released Monday, Abayomi clarified that the hospital’s Dialysis Centre is equipped with eight functional machines — six designated for general patients and two for those living with HIV or hepatitis.
Abayomi stated that this arrangement complies with best practices in infection prevention and control. He highlighted that dialysis sessions at the center commence as early as 6 a.m. and can extend until midnight, depending on patient demand.
“We conduct up to 200 dialysis sessions each month, supported by a dedicated standby generator,” Abayomi noted, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that patients in need of treatment are accommodated.
The commissioner also pointed out that dialysis services are available at several other public health facilities throughout the state, including the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, and the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Metta.
Additionally, Abayomi mentioned that further dialysis centers are being developed across Lagos to enhance access to these critical healthcare services. He reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to prioritizing the health of Lagos residents.
