Lagos seals church in Surulere over noise pollution

The Lagos State Government has closed the All Christians Gathering Ministry in Surulere due to allegations of noise pollution following a complaint from a local resident.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the closure in a statement on his X account on Sunday. The action comes after government officials conducted an investigation prompted by concerns about excessive noise generated by the ministry.

Wahab reported that the investigation confirmed the ministry’s violation of environmental regulations, which had resulted in disturbances for the surrounding community. As a result, officials sealed the church, located at No. 1 Ishola Street, off Clegg, Surulere, on Sunday. The facility will remain closed until further notice.

The commissioner emphasized the state’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws, stating that the government would not permit any individuals or organizations to engage in activities that disrupt the peace of residents or violate regulations.

He reiterated the necessity for all religious institutions, businesses, and organizations to comply with environmental standards, warning that the government will maintain strict enforcement.

“We will not tolerate environmental violations or any form of nuisance that disrupts the peace and well-being of residents,” Wahab said. “Our enforcement actions will remain firm and decisive. No individual or institution is above the law.”
