Letting Di’ja go was most difficult decision of my career – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy Reflects on Difficult Decision to Part Ways with Di’ja

LAGOS, Nigeria — Renowned record producer and music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, recently described the decision to part ways with former Mavin Records artist Di’ja as one of the most challenging moments of his career.

In a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy recounted the emotional nature of the announcement. He noted that the atmosphere was tense, and Di’ja was aware of his discomfort during their conversation.

“The hardest decision I had to make was letting Di’ja go. It was genuinely difficult, and I question whether I would make such a decision alone again,” he said. Don Jazzy added that his team members, Tega and Rima, now handle such matters if an artist needs to exit the label.

He expressed deep emotional ties to his artists, describing them as his children. “It was tough for both of us. She knew it was hard for me. Even she questioned the staff members present about why I had to be involved. We all ended up in tears,” he recalled.

Di’ja signed with Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and released several singles and an EP before 2017. In 2023, she clarified that she never formally left the label, explaining, “Life happened.”
