LIVE: Brazil slammed for World Cup ‘disrespect’

Ireland football great Roy Keane has once again taken aim at people enjoying themselves too much at the World Cup, slamming Brazil for their dancing celebrations after Vinicius Jr’s opener.

“I don’t like all the dancing,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I think it is really disrespecting the opposition. I don’t mind the first jig, I understand it, but then the manager got involved with it! It’s disrespectful.

Keane went on to say he couldn’t believe what he was watching, comparing the scenes to TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

“I’ve never seen so much dancing, it’s like watching Strictly.”

It’s not even the first time this week that Keane has taken issue with antics at the World Cup, complaining about the noise made by Senegal’s fans ahead of their clash with England.

“Very annoying,” he said.

“You’d think they’d calm down a little bit. It’s getting on my nerves. It’s lovely but it’s annoying.”

Brazilian coach Tite, who was seen dancing himself at one point, was asked about this earlier in the tournament.

“Respect for the culture, respect for who we are. It is happiness, it is joy,” he said.

“Yes, it is a moment for us to be focused and serious. But there are moments when we can have fun, when we can vibrate. Everyone has their own way. Our way is dancing.”

Keane’s comments drew widespread criticism, including from Australia’s own Craig Foster.

“Thank heavens for Brazil in football,” Craig Foster said on SBS’s postgame coverage.

“When they turn it on, it’s a very race sight, and it is part of the beautiful game. They were one of the nations who invented that at times you can see it again, and you need to see it.”

“I see on social media some people aren’t happy with the dancing – utter rubbish. This is Brazil, this is what it’s about.”
