LIVE: Crucial wicket lost as England applies pressure

Mark Taylor has weighed in on how Usman Khawaja should approach this next session and whether we could see him bat to a double century.

“Lets home from an Australian point of view that we do see him reach 200,” he told Nine’s coverage.

“I think Usman will play exactly as he did yesterday.

“Aaron Finch talked about him going through the gears – that’s what he’ll do today and try and see off this initial spell, and then be the anchor for Australia.

“If you look at Carey and Khawaja, they’ve added 91 for this wicket already, and of that, Carey’s got 52 of them.

“So, Carey has been the more dominant player in terms of runs but it’s easier to bat like Alex Carey when you have an anchor at the other end, and at the moment, Usman is doing a terrific job of that.”

Taylor also expected Carey to pick up from where he left off but with a big total in his sights.

“He just upped the anti [yesterday],” Taylor said.

“I love the fact that Travis Head got things started for Australia by being a little more expansive.

“Carey 52 runs yesterday off 80 balls – he’s got the ability, [he’s] a very good one-day player, made a Test match 100 at Boxing Day so he’s got that under his belt.”
