LIVE: Lyon’s coy response over genius move

Nathan Lyon wasn’t giving any hints away on his plan for removing Kane Williamson after picking up the Black Caps star with a tactical masterstroke.

Williamson was dismissed when he edged Lyon to Steve Smith at leg slip. Lyon and captain Pat Cummins had Travis Head deployed at bat-pad too in a deliberate tactic.

“It’s nice when plans come off pretty well straight away. I’ve noticed something in Kane’s batting against my bowling so I tried to exploit that,” Lyon said in the post-match press conference.

However, when asked for more elaboration on his tactics, Lyon wasn’t coming to the party.

“There’s one Test to come, mate,” he smiled.

Despite Lyon obviously getting the better of Williamson, Black Caps batting coach Luke Ronchi didn’t believe he has it over him.

“I think Nathan tries to exploit all sorts of things from all sorts of batters. He’s done it 500 odd times in Test cricket,” he said.

“He’s a smart bowler and he’s a smart man and he knows how to get something out of a surface or a player and try to make batters bat a certain way. Again, you put Kane’s numbers up and they are pretty good as well. Everyone’s looking for little chinks in all sort of areas. I don’t really look at that sort of stuff too much.”
