Steve Smith has hit back at critics who were concerned about his Test form, after a slow start to his summer.
It was the West Indies’ first Test win in Australia since 1997.
“There was a lot of commentary around I’d failed in two or three innings or whatever it was, I had a not out and two low scores,” Smith said at the MCG on Wednesday.
“And now I think I’m averaging 60 as an opener.”
Despite the dig, Smith declared he remained unfazed by the question marks surrounding his form, particularly after his controversial move to the top of the order.
“I didn’t really read too much into it. It was just another position. I’ve batted against a new ball numerous times, coming in early, so, for me, it’s just a position I’m just playing and that’s it,” Smith added.
