Man jailed five years for producing counterfeit olive oil in Abia

A recent conviction has emerged following an enforcement operation conducted by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in April 2026. During this operation, officials discovered a facility allegedly engaged in the illegal production and distribution of counterfeit products.

The individual, identified as Okoye, was taken into custody during the raid. Samples of the recovered products were subsequently sent to the agency’s laboratory for analysis, and the findings contributed to the investigation that resulted in his prosecution.

This conviction occurs just months after NAFDAC issued a warning to the public regarding the circulation of counterfeit Goya olive oil, which was reportedly packaged in plastic bottles and marketed as legitimate imported products.
