Marriage doesn’t make women desperate — Juliana Olayode

Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has defended women’s aspirations for marriage, asserting that the desire to be a wife does not signify desperation or a lack of purpose.

In a recent Instagram post, Olayode emphasized that women should have the autonomy to choose their paths without the fear of judgment. She argued that both women who prefer to remain single and those seeking marriage deserve respect for their choices.

“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” Olayode stated, highlighting that enthusiasm for marriage does not undermine a woman’s ambition or personal achievements. She noted that while some marriages may end in hardship and the institution presents challenges, many still view marriage as a significant and beautiful commitment.

Olayode shared a personal anecdote about overhearing a discussion at a salon in which women criticized another for expressing her wish to marry. This prompted her to voice her perspective, later reflecting humorously on the encounter when she found a “BRIDE” swimsuit gifted to her by a friend in 2024.

The actress acknowledged that people have the right to choose whether marriage is part of their lives and encouraged extending that same freedom to those who wish to marry. She reiterated that women’s aspirations can encompass a range of ambitions, including faith, career success, financial stability, friendships, family, and marriage.

In concluding her message, Olayode expressed her hopes for those seeking marriage, wishing them a supportive partner and a rewarding union. She finished with an affirmation: “Up Love! Up Marriage!”
