‘Mercy Chinwo turned it to concert’ – Daddy Freeze on why he left Alex Ekubo’s funeral

Daddy Freeze Explains Departure from Alex Ekubo’s Service of Songs
LAGOS, Nigeria — Daddy Freeze, a veteran Nigerian On Air Personality, publicly addressed his early departure from the service of songs held for the late actor Alex Ekubo during an Instagram Live session over the weekend.
The service took place last Wednesday in Lagos and featured a notable gathering of figures from various sectors, including gospel singers, pastors, and actors.
During the live stream, Daddy Freeze expressed his dissatisfaction with the event’s tone, stating that the performance by singer Mercy Chinwo transformed what he expected to be a solemn memorial into a concert atmosphere.
“Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place into a concert,” Daddy Freeze said. “At that point, I got up and left. Do you understand what a funeral is? The kind of music that should be played at a funeral is soft music.”
He suggested that the organizers should have opted for hymns to maintain the somber tone typically associated with such occasions.
In addition to Chinwo, other gospel artists, including Peterson Okopi, Moses Bliss, and the Laud Urban Choir, performed during the service.
