Charly Boy Critiques Nigerian Clerics for Profit Motive

Nigerian musician Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has raised concerns about the priorities of Christian clerics in Nigeria, asserting that the majority are more focused on profit than addressing critical societal issues.

In a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, Charly Boy criticized several pastors for their silence regarding the nation’s ongoing economic and security challenges. He claimed that some clerics are complicit, allying with corrupt politicians to exploit vulnerable communities.

Charly Boy expressed a distinct separation from the attitudes of many Nigerians, stating that he does not subscribe to the self-righteous behavior he perceives in some clergy members. “All the pastors I know in Nigeria, 99 percent of them are useless,” he stated. “It is just a business that they are running.”

He further emphasized his individuality, asserting, “I may live in Nigeria, but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time.”
