Mother, newborn, others die in bandits’ captivity in Kaduna

Eight Abducted Residents Reportedly Die in Captivity in Kaduna State
KADUNA, Nigeria – Eight individuals, including a mother, her two daughters, a newborn, and four others, are reported dead after six months in captivity following their abduction in Kaduna State.
The victims were part of a group of 11 residents taken by armed bandits during an attack on the Awon community in the Kachia Local Government Area on April 20, 2026. Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 300 million naira and 23 motorcycles, rejecting the community’s counteroffer. They subsequently threatened to withhold food from the captives until the ransom was paid.
The mother was the first to succumb to the harsh conditions, followed by her 14-year-old daughter, who later died from a serious illness connected to her captivity.
Journalist Reuben Buhari confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 22. He reported that two other victims, 34-year-old Yusuf Bawa and his five-year-old son, also reportedly died due to illness and severe malnutrition while being held hostage.
As of this report, attempts to contact Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer, were unsuccessful; he did not respond to phone calls for comment.
