Motorist escapes death as train collides with car in Lagos

A 55-year-old man escaped unharmed after his Honda vehicle was struck by a train at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos State. The collision involved a train traveling toward Agege and the car, which had the registration number EKY 902 JT. The vehicle sustained significant damage in the incident.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), along with security personnel, arrived promptly at the scene. They assisted in rescuing the driver and removing the wrecked vehicle from the railway track, allowing the train to resume its journey.
Despite the swift response, traffic congestion continued in the PWD area following the crash. LASTMA reported that the damaged vehicle was later handed over to security agents to support an ongoing investigation into the incident’s circumstances.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the quick actions of the officials and security teams, noting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in managing emergencies related to railway operations and nearby roadways.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings, emphasizing the necessity of avoiding the tracks while a train is in the vicinity. Bakare-Oki warned that disregarding safety protocols could lead to severe and irreversible consequences.
The agency appealed to drivers and all road users to adhere to established traffic laws and railway safety guidelines. LASTMA underscored that protecting human life should always be a priority and that responsible driving and compliance with safety measures are vital to preventing accidents.
