Communication Disruption Affects MTN Subscribers in Jalingo, Taraba State
Thousands of MTN subscribers in Jalingo, Taraba State, experienced a significant disruption of services on Thursday, leaving them unable to make calls, send SMS messages, or access internet-based applications like WhatsApp for several hours.
Monitorings by DAILY POST in the state capital revealed attempts by subscribers to connect via calls or mobile data were largely unsuccessful. This outage left many residents unable to reach relatives, business contacts, and customers, creating a considerable communication gap.
Local businesses reported adverse effects on their operations due to the disruption. Uche Alexander, a spare parts dealer, expressed frustration over the prolonged outage, stating he faced significant financial losses as a result of being unable to communicate with business partners. “For the past three hours, I have been finding it difficult to communicate with my business partners, and that has made me lose millions of naira,” he said.
Another resident, Paulina Kamuel, highlighted the inconvenience caused by the lack of network service, particularly for business owners reliant on telecommunications for daily transactions. “The majority of people in Jalingo depend on MTN, and I can tell you that many businesses have been crippled in the past three or four hours that the network has disappeared,” she remarked.
The outage occurred against a backdrop where mobile telecommunications are essential for commercial activities, banking transactions, and social communication. As of this reporting, the specific cause of the service disruption remains unclear, and affected subscribers are still awaiting restoration.
This incident has also sparked concerns among residents regarding the reliability of telecommunications infrastructure and the need for timely updates from service providers during significant outages.
