Nigerian Air Force Conducts Successful Airstrike in Sambisa Forest

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) carried out an airstrike on terrorist hideouts within Sambisa Forest on Monday, April 20, 2026, resulting in the deaths of several insurgents and the destruction of critical infrastructure.

The operation was executed as part of ongoing counterinsurgency efforts under Operation Hadin Kai in Nigeria’s northeastern region. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed the mission, which was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding terrorist movements in the area.

Gabkwet stated that NAF fighter jets conducted precise strikes on the identified targets, neutralizing a significant number of fighters and dismantling their logistical base.

“The Nigerian Air Force, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a successful air interdiction mission on terrorist enclaves in Sambisa Forest,” the statement read. “Several terrorists were neutralized, and their structures destroyed.”

The operation is part of broader military efforts to weaken the capabilities of insurgent groups in the region. Authorities reported that no civilian casualties occurred during the operation.
