NAFDAC Launches Nationwide Operation Against Sachet Alcohol
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated a nationwide enforcement operation aimed at removing alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles with capacities below 200 ml from circulation. This action aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing ban on such products.
In a recent statement, NAFDAC outlined that the operation is being conducted across all six geopolitical zones, as part of a broader effort to prohibit the production, importation, distribution, sale, and use of these restricted alcoholic beverages.
The agency noted that this enforcement follows the closure of manufacturing facilities that did not comply with the ban. The initiative is part of NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
“NAFDAC enforcement teams are executing coordinated operations in various locations, including markets, motor parks, bars, and retail outlets, to identify and remove the banned products from circulation,” the statement explained.
NAFDAC has urged manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and transporters to surrender any remaining stock of the affected alcoholic beverages immediately. The agency warned that possession or sale of these banned items constitutes a violation of the law, which may lead to seizures, regulatory sanctions, or prosecution.
The enforcement action aims to combat underage drinking and harmful alcohol consumption, particularly among children and young adults.
In addition, NAFDAC has appealed to the public to support the initiative by refraining from purchasing the banned products and by reporting any instances of their production, distribution, or sale to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free hotline.
