NAPTIP to probe alleged ‘child sexual abuse’ at singer Simi mum’s daycare

The Nigerian federal government has announced an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse linked to a daycare center operated by the mother of popular singer Simi. This response follows the resurfacing of Simi’s previous posts on X, amid claims of assault made by a TikTok user named Mirabel.

Reports indicate that Simi has been vocal about the rising culture of sexual assault in Nigeria, stating that many women she knows have been victims. In her discussion, she controversially suggested that rapists should face castration, prompting a heated debate online.

As the controversy unfolds, some of Simi’s earlier tweets referencing her experiences with children at her mother’s daycare have emerged, with internet users interpreting them as potentially indicative of inappropriate intent.

In response to public outcry, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has assured the public of its commitment to thoroughly investigate credible allegations of child sexual abuse and misconduct. The agency has urged anyone with pertinent information or those directly affected to come forward confidentially.

“If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially via direct message or email,” NAPTIP said in a statement on its official X account.
