Nasarawa Moves To Improve Health Workers’ Welfare After Hospital Staffing Concerns –

Nasarawa State Government Works to Enhance Healthcare Worker Welfare
The Nasarawa State Government is developing plans aimed at improving the welfare of health workers to better attract and retain skilled medical personnel in its public health facilities.
During an inspection of the General Hospital in Nasarawa, State Commissioner for Health Dr. Gwamna Gaza shared this information in response to concerns raised in a social media video about understaffing and overworked healthcare workers. This visit was prompted by a directive from Governor Abdullahi Sule, who called for an investigation into the matter and immediate solutions.
Gaza expressed appreciation for the public’s vigilance in bringing healthcare issues to light through the shared video. He emphasized that the ministry welcomes feedback regarding healthcare delivery. However, he noted that patient numbers typically decrease on weekends. He indicated that the midwife on duty had made a judgment error by not seeking assistance from nursing staff in other sections when the patient load increased.
The commissioner reassured residents that steps are being taken to enhance service delivery in healthcare facilities.
In light of a confirmed case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory, Gaza urged citizens to remain calm. He stated that the state government has activated surveillance systems at both ward and local government levels. Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers have been trained, isolation centers have been prepared, and health facilities are on alert to identify potential symptoms and implement treatment protocols efficiently.
Gaza commended Governor Sule for allocating funds to strengthen the state’s preparedness against disease outbreaks, specifically Ebola and Lassa fever.
