‘National embarrassment’: Kyrgios whacks haters

Nick Kyrgios has taken another swipe at critics who claim he is bad for tennis after his practice match against Novak Djokovic sold out inside an hour.

Kyrgios and Djokovic will face off at Rod Laver Arena on Friday night in a hit-out prior to the Australian Open, and tennis fans filled out the venue in just 58 minutes despite being charged $20 per ticket.

Following the news of the sellout, Kyrgios took to social media to take a swipe at his naysayers.

”Wow Nick Kyrgios is bad for the sport! Wow what a disgrace, a national embarrassment! How dare he sell out another stadium, the arrogance,” he wrote on Twitter.

Kyrgios’ reaction came after the news of fans being charged to attend the exhibition match was met with mixed reactions on social media.

The exhibition contest will be the pair’s first meeting since their clash in last year’s Wimbledon final, which Djokovic won in four sets.

Kyrgios and Djokovic’s relationship has come on leaps and bounds over the last 12 months, with Djokovic attributing it to the Aussie’s support of him when he was deported last year.

“He was one of the very few that stood by me last year, and I respect that and appreciate that,” Djokovic said last week.

“In those moments you can actually see who truly supports you and who is by your side and who goes with the flow of the society and the pressures that media puts on you.”
