NCAA Addresses Aviation Unions Amid Strike Action
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has expressed its commitment to resolving the issues prompting industrial action by aviation unions. This assurance comes ahead of the expected return of Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, from an official trip abroad.
In a statement, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, the Director of General Civil Aviation, urged the unions to pause their strike, emphasizing the significant impact on passengers and stakeholders.
Najomo noted that a meeting intended to address the concerns raised by the unions was postponed last week due to airline operators’ failure to attend.
The NCAA reassured travelers that flight safety remains a top priority and that the agency continues to fulfill its safety oversight responsibilities.
“We appeal to all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation,” the statement read. “We are confident that the matter will be resolved shortly, allowing normal flight operations to resume as soon as practicable.”
The NCAA also expressed regret for the disruptions caused to passengers and thanked them for their patience and understanding during this period.
