Neymar working remotely at 2026 World Cup — Brazil president

Brazil’s President Jokes About Neymar’s Remote Work Status
Belo Horizonte, Brazil — President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva lightheartedly remarked that Neymar is “the first player in the world to be called up to the national side and be working remotely.” The comment was made during a ceremony at a hospital in southeastern Brazil.
Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals, recently returned to training with the national team after recovering from a calf injury. He missed the team’s opening match, a 1-1 draw against Morocco.
Despite his return to training, Neymar has not been included in the squad by Coach Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil’s upcoming group game against Haiti on Saturday.
In response to a young boy mentioning Neymar, President Lula quipped, “Neymar? He is not even playing!” and continued with his earlier comment about the forward’s remote status.
