Nigerian Exchange Group Named Africa’s Best Exchange at Euromoney Markets Awards

LONDON — Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) received the title of Africa’s Best Exchange at the 2026 Euromoney Markets Awards, an honor that highlights its impact on market infrastructure, digital innovation, and capital formation. The award ceremony took place on October 15 at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London and recognizes the Group’s accomplishments during 2025, a year marked by significant growth in Nigeria’s equities market.
A pivotal element of broader participation in the primary market has been NGX Invest, the Group’s electronic platform for public offerings. This platform simplifies the process for investors subscribing to public offers and rights issues. It has proven instrumental during the recapitalization of Nigeria’s banking sector, facilitating over ₦2.8 trillion in capital raises. As of September 2026, the distribution network expanded to more than 180 channels, including stockbrokers, banks, and fintech companies. Notably, a WhatsApp subscription channel has been introduced, providing investors with an additional avenue for participating in public offers.
The equities market in Nigeria demonstrated remarkable growth in 2025. The NGX All-Share Index increased by 51.19 percent, while equities turnover surged by 109.48 percent, reaching ₦5.96 trillion. Market capitalization also climbed to ₦99.38 trillion. This growth momentum has persisted into 2026; as of October 16, the All-Share Index recorded a year-to-date gain of 59.07 percent, with equities turnover reaching ₦7.82 trillion—up 73.78 percent from ₦4.50 trillion during the same period in 2025. Market capitalization soared to ₦160.73 trillion.
Temi Popoola, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NGX Group, expressed pride in the recognition. “This award reflects our continued commitment to strengthening the infrastructure and technology that support capital formation and investment,” Popoola said. He acknowledged the collective efforts of regulators, policymakers, issuers, investors, and the stockbroking community, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing the capital market. He noted that by enhancing digital access to investment opportunities and improving market efficiency, the Group aims to create a more resilient and competitive capital market.
In addition to digital initiatives, NGX Group is advancing sustainable finance through the NGX Net-Zero Programme (N-Zero), developed in partnership with DEG Impulse gGmbH and the Africa Foresight Group. This program, supported by DEG Impulse’s develoPPP initiative, assists Nigerian businesses in enhancing climate readiness, establishing emissions-reduction targets, and formulating transition plans for accessing climate-aligned finance. To date, the initiative has engaged more than 50 companies, with 19 becoming community members.
The Group is also focused on improving post-trade efficiency and enhancing regional connectivity. Nigeria’s transition to T+1 settlement in June 2026 has shortened the settlement cycle, while strategic collaborations with other African exchanges are being pursued to deepen cross-border investment and strengthen market linkages across the continent.
