Nigeria Customs Service to Implement Annual Recruitment
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced that future recruitment will occur annually, departing from the previous irregular schedule.
Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi made this announcement during a press briefing at the Service’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Adeniyi explained that this change aims to establish a predictable manpower planning system. The new approach will facilitate the prompt replacement of retiring officers while providing consistent opportunities for young Nigerians to join the organization.
Under the former recruitment model, prospective applicants often faced multi-year waits before new opportunities became available. The NCS has now adopted a continuous recruitment structure, with the 2026 recruitment exercise expected to launch later this year.
“The Nigeria Customs Service is moving to an annual recruitment cycle. Recruitment will no longer be an occasional event undertaken every several years. It will be a standing, predictable, yearly process,” Adeniyi stated.
He emphasized that the 2026 recruitment process is planned to be completed within a single calendar year, from the advertisement phase to the final list of successful candidates. Additionally, the NCS has implemented new systems, screening frameworks, and verification processes to enhance efficiency in future recruitment exercises.
