Nigeria would’ve been different if El-Rufai was still around — Defence Minister Musa
Minister of Defence Christopher Musa expressed concerns about the potential impact of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Nigeria’s sociopolitical climate during a recent interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today.”
Musa criticized El-Rufai for allegedly fostering division among Nigerians, asserting that the country does not need leaders who exploit ethnic and regional differences. “We don’t want people that will come in and start dividing this,” he stated.
In the interview held on Thursday, Musa praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the nation’s development. He described Tinubu as a leader deeply invested in pushing Nigeria forward, revealing that their discussions have reinforced his belief in the president’s dedication.
“Tinubu loves this country. You could see somebody who has a passion for Nigeria, who wants Nigeria to change and things to move forward,” Musa remarked.
Reflecting on El-Rufai’s political influence, Musa indicated that the current situation might have differed had El-Rufai remained in a position of power, noting, “He loves that divide and rule. And that’s the issue.”
The minister urged political figures who promote division to refrain from public office, encouraging citizens to prioritize national unity and developmental concerns. “We shouldn’t have politicians that play that kind of game. Maybe in the past, this is a new Nigeria. We’re trying to move forward,” he said.
Musa concluded by emphasizing the need for unity among Nigerians, stating, “Let us forget about all these aspects and think as Nigerians what makes Nigeria tick. That’s what everybody should work for.”
