Nigerian Govt flags off reconstruction of Gombe-Biu highway

Federal Government Launches Reconstruction of Gombe-Biu Highway

The Federal Government has officially launched the reconstruction and dualization of the Gombe-Biu highway, a significant infrastructure project valued at 1.245 trillion naira.

On Thursday, Minister of Works David Umahi and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya conducted the ceremony on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. During the event, Umahi emphasized that the highway project is a vital component of the federal government’s infrastructure agenda.

The initiative will see the 125-kilometer road reconstructed and dualized by Hi-Tech Construction Company, utilizing rigid pavement technology. Following a request from Governor Yahaya, the project’s scope has been expanded to 139 kilometers to include a route through the Northern Bypass.

Governor Yahaya highlighted the highway’s importance as an economic and social corridor that connects the Northeast with other regions of Nigeria and neighboring countries. He stated that the project is expected to enhance trade, transportation, and regional connectivity.

“The road was originally built in 1962 and last resurfaced in 1976,” Yahaya noted. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the project and assured that collaboration with the federal government and contractors would be prioritized to ensure its timely and high-quality completion.
