Lagos Trade Union Leader Dies in Geneva

Domingo Michael Adeleke, Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council, passed away in Geneva after a brief illness. He was in Switzerland as part of Nigeria’s delegation to the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference.

Adeleke reportedly became unwell and sought medical attention but later died. His death was confirmed by a representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who characterized him as a dedicated trade unionist committed to advancing the welfare of workers.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Nigeria Labour Congress and the entire trade union movement in Nigeria announce the passing of Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke,” the official stated. “He died today in Geneva while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference.”

Adeleke was also a member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union and played a significant role in labor advocacy and initiatives that promoted workers’ welfare. The NLC noted that he was fervently dedicated to the principles of decent work and social justice throughout his career.
