Nigerians now renting ‘money sprayers’ to pressure guests at parties – Mr Real raises alarm

Afrobeats singer Mr. Real has raised concerns over growing allegations that individuals in Nigeria are hiring money sprayers to create an atmosphere of pressure at social events.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, Mr. Real cautioned the public against feeling compelled by the extravagant displays of wealth often showcased online or at parties. He detailed how the hired individuals, known as “money sprayers,” collaborate with event hosts to distribute cash, influencing other guests to join in the practice.
Mr. Real explained that the arrangement typically sees the hosts returning the sprayed money to the sprayers while retaining a portion of the proceeds. “Some Nigerians now rent people to spray money at their parties. It’s a bizarre business,” he said. “Don’t believe everything you see on social media or at events.”
He recounted an incident during his recent stay at a hotel in Abuja, where an altercation broke out involving the money sprayers. After inquiring about the situation, he learned that the dispute stemmed from the discovery of counterfeit bills among the money sprayed at an event. The host accused the sprayers of introducing the fake currency, while the sprayers claimed it might have been introduced by the celebrant’s friends.
Mr. Real expressed his surprise at the existence of this practice, highlighting how it can create undue pressure on attendees who are unaware that these extravagant displays are often staged. He noted that similar practices are reportedly common in areas of Lagos, particularly in Lekki.
