NIS extends UK special passport intervention exercise
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the extension of its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom, now set to run from September 19 to October 3, 2026. The decision to extend the program comes in response to a significant turnout of Nigerians seeking passport services.
In a statement released on Friday, NIS Public Relations Officer DCI Akinsola Akinlabi indicated that the intervention exercise has been progressing smoothly at the London and Manchester centers, despite initial challenges experienced on the first day.
According to the NIS, 1,477 Nigerians have been processed and enrolled during the first four days of the program. Notably, more than half of these applicants have received their passports, which have been dispatched to their respective addresses.
The statement emphasized the importance of an orderly and transparent process for applicants. Eligible individuals are required to book appointments for the intervention exercise via the High Commission of Nigeria’s official website.
Applicants must present several documents at their scheduled appointment, including a completed application form and payment receipt, an appointment slip for the intervention exercise, the applicant’s current passport (if applicable), and a self-addressed return envelope.
The NIS reiterated that the passport application and payment processes are fully automated and without cash transactions. The fees remain set at $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a ten-year booklet, with no additional charges associated with participation in the exercise.
The extension of the intervention exercise aims to accommodate the increasing demand for passport services, ensuring that as many eligible applicants as possible are served.
