NIS, NDLEA deepen partnership with Ogun pilgrims board ahead of 2027 HAJJ
Agencies Collaborate for 2027 Hajj Preparation in Ogun State
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have committed to enhancing their collaboration with the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (OGMPWB) as preparations for the 2027 Hajj begin to take shape.
This commitment was expressed during meetings between agency officials and the management of the Pilgrims Board in Abeokuta. Participants underscored the significance of early planning, effective coordination, and adequate outreach to intending pilgrims.
Ganiyu Oladele, the Ogun State Comptroller of Immigration, affirmed the NIS’s intention to maintain a productive partnership with the Pilgrims Board while receiving a delegation led by Executive Secretary Taiwo Ajibola at the command’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan. Oladele assured intending pilgrims that the command would expedite passport processing in accordance with requirements and deadlines for the upcoming pilgrimage. He highlighted that early collaboration among stakeholders is vital to overcoming potential challenges during the event.
Oladele praised the OGMPWB for its efforts in coordinating pilgrim activities and reiterated the Immigration Service’s commitment to improved communication and services.
In response, Ajibola acknowledged the NIS as a crucial partner in Hajj administration, expressing gratitude for the support received over the years. He called for a more sustainable partnership that would streamline information sharing, simplify passport documentation processes, and enhance services for pilgrims. Ajibola emphasized the importance of educating intending pilgrims on the need to secure valid travel documents well in advance of the Hajj.
Similarly, the Ogun State NDLEA has pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Pilgrims Board by providing education on the dangers of illicit drug trafficking and the associated legal consequences. NDLEA State Commander Tijani Rabe made this commitment while addressing the Pilgrims Board delegation in Abeokuta, noting that the partnership is essential for ensuring pilgrims understand drug-related laws in both Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Rabe urged intending pilgrims to exercise caution and avoid actions that could lead to legal repercussions or damage Nigeria’s reputation abroad. He assured the Board that capable personnel would be deployed to educate pilgrims on drug-related issues and compliance with regulations.
In his remarks, Ajibola lauded the NDLEA for its ongoing support and commitment to educating pilgrims, noting that preparations for the 2027 Hajj are already underway. He encouraged the agency to actively participate in the planning process to provide adequate guidance to pilgrims before their departure.
“As a key stakeholder in Hajj operations, it is essential for the NDLEA to be fully integrated into our preparations and continue engaging our pilgrims on drug-related matters,” Ajibola stated.
