Adekunle Gold Praises Wife Simi’s Songwriting Talent
Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold recently lauded his wife, Simi, as the premier songwriter in the Nigerian music industry. During an interview with Angela Yee, Gold asserted that no other songwriter compares to Simi’s unique abilities.
Gold acknowledged his experience working with numerous talented songwriters but emphasized that Simi stands out as “sui generis,” a term meaning she is one of a kind.
“Nobody writes songs like Simi,” Gold stated. “I have never seen someone create ten songs on one beat before. Other artists often find the right song for a specific beat, but Simi writes multiple versions, which is truly distinctive.”
He gave the example of Simi’s work on her hit song “Duduke,” explaining that she produced several different versions, with the final release being just one among many possibilities. Gold noted, “She wrote about three different versions of ‘Duduke.’”
