NPFL fines Rivers United N15m, deducts three points, goals for blocking live broadcast

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a suspended fine of 15 million naira, along with a penalty of three points and three goals, for Rivers United. This disciplinary action stems from the club’s obstruction of the live broadcast during their home match against Rangers International on Sunday.
The Matchday 11 game, held at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, concluded in a 1-1 draw. The NPFL stated that the financial penalty and sporting sanctions will only take effect if Rivers United commits a similar violation in the current season.
Ayo Abdulrahman, Chief Executive Officer of the NPFL, emphasized that the club’s actions violated the league’s commercial and broadcasting agreements. He expressed concern that the incident compromised the integrity and reputation of the league.
Abdulrahman underscored that clubs must not obstruct or deny authorized broadcast access, especially during matches scheduled for live television coverage.
