NRL investigates Souths after Broncos clash

The NRL is investigating an interchange blunder that resulted in the Rabbitohs having 14 players on the field momentarily against the Broncos on Friday night.

The Rabbitohs pumped competition leaders Brisbane 32-6 with dominant performances by Latrell Mitchell and Campbell Graham laying the platform for a solid victory.

But they’ll have to answer to the NRL after it was found there was a miscommunication that led to them having an extra player on the field.

NRL Highlights: Broncos v Rabbitohs – Round 9

News Corp reports Souths had 14 players on the field for up to 30 seconds, which amounts to about two to three plays while in possession with the score 22-6.

At that point in the match, Brisbane was down to 12 players after Herbie Farnworth was sin-binned for tripping.

The Rabbitohs made their third and fourth replacements at the same time in the 53rd minute, with Davvy Moale and Jai Arrow to come onto the field.

Moale replaced Tevita Tatola without incident but Arrow and his would-be replacement Tom Burgess were both on the field at the same time.

Replays showed Burgess taking a hit up with Arrow in the frame. Burgess is then quickly rushed off the field.

The NRL will ask for a full report from the ground manager and interchange official to understand how it transpired.

The breach is considered minor and the Rabbitohs are not expected to be docked competition points.
