NSCDC arrests man for allegedly impersonating officer in Kano

KANO, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has arrested a 27-year-old man, Yusuf Abdulrazaq, for allegedly impersonating an officer of the Corps.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest made on behalf of the State Commandant. The suspect was taken into custody in Rimin Auzinawa, located in the Ungogo Local Government Area, where he allegedly posed as an Assistant Superintendent of Corps I (ASC I) and claimed to be affiliated with the NSCDC State Command Headquarters.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Abdulrazaq had offered to track stolen mobile phones as a front to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Kano State Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama urged residents to exercise vigilance and verify the identities of individuals claiming to be NSCDC officers, particularly those soliciting money under dubious circumstances. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public trust, and ensuring that anyone found impersonating security personnel or engaging in criminal behavior is brought to justice.
The statement noted that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with the possibility of prosecution. The Command also called on the community to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies to enhance public safety.
