NSCDC arrests suspects over alleged investment fraud, cult-related case

Kwara NSCDC Arrests Two for Fraud and Cult Activity

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command has arrested two individuals in connection with separate offenses, including an alleged investment fraud totaling ₦78.4 million and a cult-related incident.

According to Ayoola Michael Shola, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, operatives recovered a locally fabricated pistol and mobile phones during one of the arrests.

One of the suspects, 33-year-old Onwucheku Odum Umeh, was detained on October 15 in Ikeja, Lagos State. He is accused of participating in an investment scam involving the PXES investment platform. The NSCDC stated that the investigation began after receiving complaints about fraudulent activities and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Preliminary investigations reveal that six investors collectively contributed ₦78,360,709 (approximately $187,200) to the PXES platform. Officials traced the funds to an account belonging to Umeh, uncovering a connection between PXES and Ragekay Global Investment Limited. Investigators reported that a significant portion of the investments was linked to this company’s account.

The NSCDC is encouraging any members of the public who invested in PXES and believe they have incurred financial losses to come forward. They should provide documentation such as bank transfer receipts, transaction records, and communication with the platform, which will assist in corroborating their claims and advancing the investigation.

In a separate operation, the NSCDC apprehended 29-year-old Oluwafemi Olarewaju in relation to a suspected cult-related clash in Ilorin, Kwara State. Preliminary findings suggest that Olarewaju was attempting to retaliate following the incident, while several other individuals believed to be involved fled the scene.

The recovered locally fabricated pistol and mobile phones are being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Kwara State Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to conducting proactive, intelligence-driven operations to combat criminal activities and enhance public safety in the state. He also urged the community to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in crime prevention and enforcement.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and the NSCDC has promised that appropriate legal actions will be initiated as new developments arise.
