NYSC members’ abduction: Tinubu’s alleged laxity emboldening terrorists — Makinde campaign

By Luminous Jannamike

The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organization (MDPCO) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of being ineffective in addressing security issues, alleging that this has emboldened criminals, including terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers.

The organization made this statement following the reported abduction of 19 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their orientation camps in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria.

In an official statement released by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the MDPCO described the incident as indicative of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s failure to protect Nigerians, particularly the youth engaged in national service.

“It is profoundly saddening and heartbreaking that under the watch of the Tinubu-led administration, parents toil, make immense sacrifices and struggle through biting economic hardship to train their children through tertiary institutions, only for them to be handed over to terrorists and bandits,” the organization stated.

The MDPCO emphasized that this incident is part of a broader security crisis, highlighting that homes, communities, markets, places of worship, schools, and highways have increasingly fallen prey to criminal activities.

The group claimed that more than 600,000 Nigerians have lost their lives to violence perpetrated by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements during the Tinubu administration, with many more still held captive.

“Sadly, Nigeria under President Tinubu is fast degenerating into a failed state where the primary constitutional duty of government—to ensure the security and welfare of citizens—has collapsed,” the MDPCO said.

While acknowledging the efforts of security personnel, the organization criticized the Tinubu presidency for failing to implement an effective, intelligence-driven security system capable of safeguarding citizens.

The MDPCO urged President Tinubu to consider the security strategies employed by Oyo State’s APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, which they claim prioritize coordinated operations, intelligence sharing, stronger collaboration, preventive measures, and rapid response.

According to the MDPCO, Makinde has shown the capability, experience, and determination to deliver effective leadership on significant national issues.

The organization declared its commitment to supporting Makinde in the January 16, 2027 presidential election, characterizing him as a viable alternative to the current administration.

In closing, the MDPCO expressed solidarity with Nigerians affected by ongoing insecurity and encouraged citizens to stay resilient as the campaign aims for what it terms a “reset” and a new beginning under a Makinde/Daura administration.
