October 1: I met Nigeria a sick patient  – Tinubu

During a nationwide broadcast on Thursday, President Bola Tinubu characterized Nigeria’s current state as akin to a “sick patient” grappling with a cancer diagnosis. His remarks were made in celebration of the country’s 66th Independence Day anniversary.

Tinubu expressed his commitment to pursuing rigorous reforms that he claimed previous leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, failed to enact. He emphasized that past administrations opted for temporary solutions rather than addressing underlying issues.

“By 2023, Nigeria was like a sick patient who received the terrible news that he had cancer,” Tinubu stated. “For too long, Nigeria’s leaders chose morphine while praying for a miracle that never came.”

The president criticized former leadership for concentrating on superficial symptoms rather than confronting the deep-rooted challenges affecting the nation. He highlighted the significant resources expended on unsustainable practices that were never designed for long-term viability and lamented a historical tendency to evade difficult truths, allowing the repercussions to be passed down through generations.
