Ogun State Government Celebrates Reuben Fasoranti on 100th Birthday

The Ogun State Government has participated in nationwide celebrations honoring elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, as he marks his 100th birthday.

In a personal tribute, Governor Dapo Abiodun described Fasoranti as a symbol of patriotism, democratic ideals, and principled leadership. He emphasized the lasting impact of Fasoranti’s contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution.

Born in Akure a century ago, Fasoranti has built a distinguished career as a teacher, school administrator, politician, and advocate for good governance. Abiodun recalled Fasoranti’s tenure as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State from 1979 to 1983 under the late Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin. He also recognized Fasoranti’s significant role in educational development, particularly through the establishment of institutions such as Omolere Nursery School and the extensions of Akure High School.

The governor noted that Fasoranti has been a prominent advocate for democracy, federalism, and restructuring throughout Nigeria’s history. He played a pivotal role in the nation’s pro-democracy movements alongside other nationalist leaders, including Obafemi Awolowo. Despite facing persecution during the military era, Fasoranti remained committed to his belief that democratic governance is essential for Nigeria’s growth and unity.

Abiodun referred to Fasoranti as “a national treasure,” whose guidance and moral authority continue to inspire leaders across generations.

“The Government and People of Ogun State celebrate Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti at 100 and pray that Almighty God grants him many more fruitful years in good health and peace,” the governor stated.

Fasoranti’s centenary will be celebrated on Sunday, with numerous prominent political leaders, traditional rulers, and associates expected to attend the festivities in his honor.
