Ogun State Executive Council Approves New Infrastructure Projects
The Ogun State Executive Council has approved a series of strategic infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing development and preserving cultural heritage. Among the approved projects are the construction of new legislative quarters, housing schemes, and the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, as well as major road rehabilitations throughout the state.
Key projects include the development of 450 units of two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows equipped with necessary infrastructure, 28 new official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and the construction of 28 sellable duplexes in the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) Scheme II. The Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, is also set for reconstruction.
The Executive Council’s plans further include the renovation of several strategic roads across the three senatorial districts, intended to improve connectivity and support economic growth while enhancing residents’ quality of life. The approved road projects comprise the reconstruction of the Okun-Owa–Ijebu-Ode Road, the Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road, the Odeda-Olugbo Road in Phase One, the Ayobo (Mopol Junction)–Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, and the Agbala Road in Iperu.
Additionally, the Council supports traditional institutions through the enhancement of several chieftaincy titles. The Akoko of Tongeji Island and the Onitafin of Orile Itafin will receive official recognition, alongside the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo. Other approvals include the creation and upgrading of coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba, and Yewa Traditional Councils.
Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, announced the decisions, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to infrastructure transformation and institutional reforms under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.
Akinmade noted that the renovations of the House of Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge aim to provide conducive environments for governance and ensure the preservation of valuable government properties. He highlighted the administration’s ongoing policy of replacing outdated public infrastructure with modern, durable facilities to meet the state’s increasing demands.
Many buildings inherited by the current administration are over 50 years old and structurally compromised. Their reconstruction is part of a broader urban regeneration initiative that has already revitalized numerous aging public structures.
Furthermore, the 450-unit housing project will support the administration’s affordable housing program by increasing access to quality accommodation and spurring economic activity in the construction sector. The duplexes at the Ibara GRA Scheme II are expected to boost property values, attract private investment, and reinforce Ogun State’s appeal as a residential and commercial hub.
On the road initiatives, Akinmade underscored the administration’s dedication to improving access to markets, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and industrial zones, ultimately fostering socio-economic development across the region.
Regarding the chieftaincy upgrades, he stated that these decisions reflect Governor Abiodun’s dedication to safeguarding Ogun State’s cultural heritage and bolstering traditional institutions, which play a vital role in promoting security, governance, and community development.
Akinmade reaffirmed the Governor’s commitment to developing sustainable infrastructure, protecting public assets, enhancing governance institutions, and building a modern Ogun State that attracts investment and fosters inclusive growth for the well-being of its residents.
