Ogun government mourns veteran actor, Ogogo


The Ogun State Government has issued a statement expressing its sorrow over the passing of veteran actor and filmmaker Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo.

In a statement from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government characterized Hassan’s death as a significant loss not only to Ogun State but also to Nigeria’s creative industry and the nation as a whole.

Hassan, who hailed from Ilaro, was remembered as an accomplished artist and a cultural ambassador. He made substantial contributions to the promotion of Yoruba heritage, which the government emphasized in its statement.

According to the statement, Hassan’s career was marked by exceptional artistry, discipline, humility, and professionalism, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues, fans, and multiple generations of Nigerians.

The government highlighted Hassan’s dedication to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage, particularly the Yoruba language, traditions, and values, through his work in theatre, film, and television.

His death has reportedly left a profound void felt by his family, the residents of Ilaro, the broader Ogun State community, members of the creative industry, and his many fans across Nigeria and beyond.

“On behalf of the Ogun State Government and the good people of the state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in the creative industry, the people of Ilaro, and his numerous fans across Nigeria and beyond,” Akinmade stated.

The government encouraged Nigerians to celebrate Hassan’s life and achievements, acknowledging that his contributions to cultural heritage would continue to inspire future generations.

“Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo, was a shining light. His voice may have fallen silent, but his works, values, and contributions to our cultural heritage will continue to speak for generations,” the statement concluded.

The Ogun State Government also offered prayers for the repose of his soul and for strength for his family and all those mourning his loss.
